One of my fellow bloggers suggested that charities should cut down on acknowledgements for donations, to save money. I am not so sure.
I believe that a well-worded ‘thank-you’ letter can be very useful. If I send a donation, and receive no letter in return, that is that. If I receive the right kind of thank-you letter, I should feel a warm glow. I am being told how my money is going to be used. Worded correctly, the thank-you letter may make me wish I had sent more in the first place! But what it should really achieve is to strengthen the idea that I chose the right charity on this occasion, and should continue to support it in the future. In fundraising parlance, it should help to keep me ‘warm’ for the future!
