Some years ago, living elsewhere, I participated in a continuing survey for Royal Mail. Each participant is given a special name – so that all post arriving for that name is known to be solely for the survey.
So, the Church Urban Fund sends a mailing to that non-existent person, at my old address. The present occupant, by the way, is not involved in the survey in any way. How did the Fund get the name and address? The survey people working for Royal Mail would not have sold (or given away) the ’survey’ names and addresses: that would simply upset their survey. Anyway, I doubt whether the Church Urban Fund is doing much good by mailing ‘people’ who don’t really exist. Some cleaning of the data base appears to be needed.
