I hope charities will not adopt the disgraceful ‘money saving’ approach of one commercial greetings card manufacturer. It blithely states: ‘We have been unable to ascertain the copyright holder of the above artist’s work but will be pleased to acknowledge credit for this on any future publication’.
That looks to me very like stealing the right to reproduce the artist’s work. Why not simply choose another picture and pay the artist in question the going rate? Charities: do not be tempted to follow this unethical practice. Play your cards right, and the artist may be happy to forgo the fee, for the benefit of the charity.
