I don’t know if, statistically, it helps a charity to ask for a specific amount – be it £5000, £1000, £14.22, or whatever. What I do know is that I dislike being asked for a figure far in excess of what I would contemplate for the type of charity involved. So, two cheers for DEStiny (Disability Enterprise Support) for asking us to consider making a donation of whatever we feel appropriate towards ‘this well utilised programme’. Even so, they, like so many others, have failed with me – perhaps because they operate throughout the East of England, whereas my ‘patch’ is elsewhere and I feel I should give preference to my ‘locals’.
