There are ways of putting the screws on people who have said ‘no’ to a fundraising appeal in the past. I like the simple approach of The Haileybury Club, seeking funds to refurbish its building in Hoddesdon, Herts. It simply says: “You kindly considered an application for funding from us last year, but unfortunately, you were not in a position to give us a grant”. All quite true, and it seems to add a little pressure!
