Fellow donors, the message seems clear: ‘Never put a stamp on a Freepost envelope’. For years, charities have been pointing out that it will save them money if we put a stamp on their Freepost envelope when sending a donation. Now, it has become clear that Royal Mail’s system for charging charities results in most Freepost envelopes being charged – whether or not the sender has added a stamp.
If you really want to save the cost of postage for a charity, use an envelope of your own, and use the charity’s normal address and postcode – not the postcode which appears on the Freepost envelope.
