How should one react when a charity asks one to subsidise its service when a user of the service says: “I am just so surprised you can offer this excellent service for just 70p per week”?
I am afraid my reaction is that Cue and Review Recording Service – which provides (mainly Scottish) daily newspapers, etc on tape for the blind – should charge more for its service. Personally, I should be more inclined to subsidise the service if the charity received letters saying that, sadly, those in need of it could not afford the subscription being charged.
The organisation produces 15 newspaper and magazine titles in audio for blind people throughout the UK. I have no quibble with the service, simply that, perhaps, the burden on donors could be reduced if donors were asked to pay a realistic sum in the light of their needs and finances.
