Discussing the Unmentioable!

My wife has received a letter starting off with: “talking to someone you have never met about bowels is quite a challenge!” But Deborah Gilbert, Head of Development at Bowel Cancer Research is more than up to the challenge. She makes the very valid point that, even in our supposedly more “open” society, some people will put off going to see their doctor when initial symptoms appear because they are simply too embarrassed to discuss them. Some 35,000 people are told they have bowel cancer, each year.

Surgery is still he only cure – and that may result in the need to be fitted with a stoma. The Vital Lives appeal is to increase investment in world class scientific and medical research.

I also liked: “I realise that it is in today’s financially challenging times, difficult to acknowledge all of the charity appeals that your are likely to receive, but I am going to keep my fingers crossed that you will decide to support our Vital Lives appeal”.
