When I get a typical ‘begging letter’, there is comparatively little from which to form an opinion. But, if there are spelling mistakes, it does give the impression of, possibly, a slapdash approach. Clean Rivers Trust managed quite a number of spelling mistakes in a letter signed by the Director, Dr Harvey Wood, with impressive initials after his name.
I don’t blame him personally for the town where I live being mis-spelt, although it does not inspire confidence. But I do lay the blame fairly on his shoulders for such phrases as: “Reinventing the wheal is……”, and “…needs to upgrade its ‘IT’ facilities to accommodate a partially sited person.”
You may say: “So what? We all know what he means”. True, but if somebody has difficulty in choosing the right words, do they have other problems, such as not having a head for figures? I don’t know, but I do feel that, if you want to entice people to give money, you need to put your best foot forward, in every respect.
PS. I wonder what I have mis-spelt in this blog!
