Medecins Sans Frontieres has sent a letter from Dr Simon Burling – who volunteered to work with MSF “because I wanted to use my professional skills to address a fundamental injustice; that is if you get sick or injured, we can get treatment and stand a good chance of getting better. But for too may people around the world, that is simply not the case.”
The letter tells of some of his experiences in Southern Sudan. Also included in the pack is a trip report – which is a very good attempt at conveying to the reader what the conditions are like in the field (including physical dangers), and the conditions under which work is undertaken.
But the trip was from 27 December 2007 to 5 January 2008. Something more up-to-date would have carried greater weight (with me). Nevertheless, I rate it as a good fundraising package, from an organisation which has earned for itself a good reputation for getting on with the job, whatever the distractions.
