Once again, The Prostate Cancer Charity has invited me to become a Founder Member of the charity’s Research Action Fund (always requiring a gift of £1,000). This time, it comes with a separate letter from William Russell (formerly a managing director at Merrill Lynch). It explains that, after he received a similar letter, he thought “this was no small request”. After weighing up the proposal, “suddenly I felt I could no longer sit back and ignore this. I had to do something about it.” He became a Founding Member of the Fund, and, now, is a trustee of the charity.

I do not know whether this recurring letter generally goes to people as well-heeled as William Russell, but, clearly, it should be helpful for people to receive such an endorsement from somebody who received a similar letter – and took up the challenge.
