A letter comes from Margaret Mountford – probably well known to those who have watched The Apprentice. As a trustee of CORDA, she is asking for money to fund research ‘to make a significant impact on the detection and treatment of heart disease’.
She outlines three projects, two of which make use of a brand new extension of cardiovascular magnetic resonance. This was developed by CORDA scientists over 25 years ago. Now used world wide, it is a non-invasive and repeatable way of looking at the heart and arteries. The new technique, still non-invasive, allows researchers to see scarring on the heart – previously seen only during post-mortem examinations.
Full marks for explaining, clearly, such exciting progress which can help so many people. It is a straightforward letter, without tiresome gimmicks, and it deserves to attract funds. I am happy to name Margaret Mountford as ‘the thinking-donor’s fundraiser’!
