It is easy to become confused by the proliferation of cancer charities. Wellbing of Women is concerned with gynaecological cancer (from which 150 women die each week).
I don’t think, however, that any charity should fall into the trap of promising too much to donors. Money does not always produce the hoped-for results.
In this case, I take exception to the Director of the charity saying: “We know from the progress made in treating breast cancer, that these [gynaecological cancer] deaths could be prevented with further investment in research”. Success in one area does not ensure success in another, and research, I believe, is still very much a case of trial and error – with, sadly, no guarantees.
Of course, I am all in favour of further medical research (of all kinds), but I believe donors should not be given he impression that their money will necessarily bring the hoped-for results.
Nice post! GA is also my biggest earning. However, it’s not a much.
