Anyone for Golf?

A relatively new charity, Scottish Disability Golf Partnership, needs to raise £15,744 to hold the second Pan-Disability Open Golf Championship – for an estimated 60 golfers with a wide range of serious diusabilities.

Th enthusiasm of the chairman, who is blind, and who has more than 15 years’ experience in the administration and operation of disabled golf groups and in organising national and international golf events, is very obvious, and I wish them every success.

I am, however, puzzled as to why the request for funds should have come to me. I have never played golf (or had any connection with the sport), and I am based a long way from Scotland. I would have thought it might be more effective to concentrate on known golfers – preferably who live (or have lived) in Scotland.

I know details of members of clubs of all kinds are ‘data protected’, but I would have thought there are ways to bring the charity’s plan to the attention of such enthusiasts, leaving people like myself off the list. With two other requests in the same post, I have to be selective.
