The RSPB is asking for funds to be able to buy a new bird reserve (so what is new?). While the letter, appropriately enough, is signed by the Society’s Reserves Manager for South and West Scotland (since the land to be purchased is in Dumfries and Galloway), I would be surprised if he wrote it unaided. This letter, I think, is a very good ‘ask’ – giving the details in a straightforward way. The form for completion for a gift is a tear-off from the main letter – with the choice of giving by mail, web or telephone.
When the need is for £725,000 to buy 156 hectares of land, it would be easy for recipients to feel that any contribution they might make would have little effect. To counter that, one is offered the chance to buy 53 square metres for £25, 107 square metres for £50, or 161 square metres for £75. Or, of course, one can choose some other amount (and work it out for one’s self!)
All in all, I found this letter to be well thought out and presented, without the ‘fussiness’ so often found with this kind of request.
What point is it being african if you cannot get sunburnt.
