After bombarding me (and no doubt many others) with requests for funds, The Smile Train starts its latest letter by saying “if you make just one gift ….we promise that we will never ask you for another donation again.”
Of course, it is not quite as simple as that! You have to look on the donation form for a small box to tick for ‘Please do not ask me for another donation’. And can one trust them? Not only may they find some excuse for writing in the future, but, more likely, they will buy in a list of potential names (for cold asking) without checking to see who, on that new list, has opted out.
Donors of a suspicious mind (such as myself) who, to date, have not responded to the barrage of requests, may not be prepared to take the chance!
