With the high number of catastrophes caused by the elements throughout the world, and the consequent human distress, it is encouraging that people have responded so generously. That could leave organisations such as the National Trust in a difficult position. They need money for their work – but it does not have the same priority as trying to help people who have been left with almost nothing – especially hardly any food.
Two sentences from the National Trust’s For Ever, For Everyone appeal seem to strike the right note. “As a charity, we can’t hope to cover this cost without donations from people like you. So please play your part in protecting our most historic, and best-loved places by giving a gift today!”
