World Vision

I always try and support this charity. One of the main reasons I support them is because most of the campaigns I have received information about don’t require any money requests.

Now before you all go off on one let me explain. I have a very limited budget which I can give to charity. I prefer to decide how much I want to give and when. Most charities are quite responsible in the amount of times they ask for a cash donation. Some do take the mick. Sometimes in the past I’ve no sooner sent a donation then you receive another request almost straight away. The exception of course is when there’s some kind of disaster and of course I happily contribute.

World Vision has novel ways of raising awareness to the causes they are concerned about. You don’t always need to throw money at a problem to fix it.

This morning the latest campaign newsletter arrived. I’m always impressed by how professional the newsletter is. It’s A4 sized (folded in half and posted in a standard envelope to save costs but oops one of those envelopes with the plastic window for the address!).

Their latest campaign is called three small steps which is lobbying the UK government to appoint an independent, national child trafficking ‘watchdog’

In the last newsletter you had to draw around your foot and send it to the address printed on the sheet attached adding your own message . As I said its easy to just throw money at a problem but these types of campaigns are innovative and gives you a chance to say your piece.

In this newsletter you have a preprinted letter to send off.

World Vision are very good at keeping you up to date with previous campaigns, the newsletters are easy to read and if you have any queries its easy to find an address,Internet address or telephone number to contact them.

Maybe other charities could take this approach with their campaigns and get their supporters to spend a couple of minutes filling in a form (or drawing a picture!) which firstly gives the person a sense of accomplishment and actually gets them to read and learn about an issue rather than writing out a cheque or giving a handful of change which requires little though.
