Hello, I am of the opinion that P,E,T,A, should subscribe to the principal of E,T,P, The Ethical Treatment of People. This cynical fund raising technique really scrapes the bottom of the barrel in terms of a contempt for the people who generously subscribe to good causes. It is only pursued because it traps the soft hearted among us. They are prepared to gamble £5000 for every 100,000 letters sent. There are other charities with the same aims, who do not sink to this level, and who I actively support. Discourage this miserable ploy by keeping this money or divert it to other charities. Hiya

Most of the charities *should* have at some point included this tick box etc on their communications. There’s a chance it was tucked away.

As an aside, if one charity decided NEVER to share this personal info – after all, it’s personal between you and me, should they make a big fuss about it?

So great to see a balance and well thought out blog of this form of fundraising. So many people attack face to face fundraising without thinking through the logic and the benefits. We’re all humans after all and a simple ‘no thank you’ and a smile is all you need to carry on your way. Thats not a massive sacrafice to have to make to allow these guys to do their job and raise some serious money for the causes we care about.

You touch my heartsrings! I have been reading your columns for a while now and I must say that I feel overwhelmed with such strong positive feedback from a wonderful loyal donor and friend. I truly value your comments, criticisms,and good feed back. In this way we can only learn from them.
