I am thinking of setting up as a manufacturer of pens for charities believing that I could become quite rich. My thought follows the receipt of more than 40 pens in the last two years. Recently these have been of a high quality. The Humane Society International (an animal protection charity) seemed to start the trend. In my case it was continued by Feed my People which cares for orphaned children in Africa (this was a personalised pen) and today Medical Mission International sent a very smart pen but a great deal of throwaway packaging. The pen also comes with a plea to “please send this amount” namely £41 which my charity budget at the moment cannot afford.
My response to charities appeals is based on my desire to support the cause. If charities have decided that pens, T shirts, address labels and umbrellas etc are needed to entice donations is that not a sad commentary on society?
