One statistic stands out from this letter signed by Barnardo’s Chief Executive.  This is that 1,115 children were helped by the organisation last year.  In this wealthy western society! Spiralling debt (exacerbated by a 180% interest rate) leads to hunger in some families.  Then there are the children forced into prostitution and babies with HIV and none of these children are of course responsible for the situations in which they find themselves.  Another statistic is that 40% of Barnardo’s income is from legacies and this appeal is intended to recruit more people to remember the charity in their Will.  I am sorry Barnardos but my estate is already committed to another charity, but I hope you are able to recruit people who are not so committed.  Everyone should remember a charity in their Will and I hope that Barnardos are successful in attracting people who have not yet done so.
