Just another standard Mailshot & full marks for using a plain, cellophane-window free envelope. But i will not be donating i’m afraid, based on my decision not to support charities working with pets anymore. As i mentioned last week re the Cats Protection League, it seems to me that such pets are literally eating up too much of the worlds resources, so i do not want to encourage pet-keeping. And yes i know humans are the worst offenders by light years but we evolved an opposable thumb & they didn’t so… As to birds & fish a tiny rodents i absolutely do not approve of them being kept at all, as it is so cruel they have to be caged or kept in a tank. And this from someone who loved her stepdaughter’s rat – which wasn’t living there when i was – so much she had it tattooed on her breastbone when it died.

I am not saying no-one should have pets (eg lone pensioners) or working dogs but if they are just pets then i’m agin it. Or can you show me i am wrong? Happy to debate that.

Mercy Ships
Mercy Ships
This was a mailshot that did hit the spot & i will shell out in Sept (Aug charity budget spent already) partly as i recall reading an article on this organisation some years ago. The ships anchor offshore in areas where there are no hospital and perform what in the West are small & routine ops (eg cleft lip repairs, eye surgery). But as minor problems such as these can cause the victim to be shunned or be unable to make their own living, they can radically change lives. Any cash goes a long way as they rely on donated equipment etc & volunteer staff. Welling up as i write & no point you telling me Mercy Ships are a Christian organisation as it’s la-la-la-i’m-not-listening time…
