World Villages for Children
Usual mailshot tho’ this is from a charity i give to maybe 3 times a year. Have a lot of charities i give to on a rota basis, approx, and i do not/will not/cannot give more just because i get sent a lot of envelopes. And as this charity does not send Freepost envelopes but envelopes with a stamp the surplus get sent to charities (eg Medecins sans Frontieres, Bhopal) who do not send envelopes, with a plain sticker added & stamp; new address drawn in. Today WVforC (’helping children break free from a life of poverty’) also sent a pen. What is that all about? Are families in th west who are too poor to own a pen likely to give? And if you have pens are you going to give as you have recieved a free one? And they are plastic which we already have too much of in this world. me, i get so many free pens i actually take them into work – and i’m a civil servant so you would expect it to be the other way! And doing this blog has made me read the small print and i now see their are religious types behind this charity and that’s a hairt shirt for me.

Think i was spoofed here with a fake appeal. ‘Little Britain’ sketch, almost. Envelope ’stamped’ to say it was an urgent collection for the floods. Oh Bangladesh i thought & decided to give beginning of Sept tho’ i gave to the RC recently for Darfur. I still cannot believe i was being asked to give for the UK floods!!! Don’t get me wrong, i am sure people have had an appalling time of it & people have died in the north & the west. But there are services in this country which they don’t get in Bangladesh & no-one in Tewkesbury had to live on their roof with 6 kids & a goat. They had it worse in New Orleans too – where is a sense of perspective? So, ‘oi, RC, you are out of order’. Seriously, bit disgusted at the RC priorities. They are on my metaphorical naughty step a while, thinking things over.

Yes i do give & will give again. But do you really have to send me an A5 size envelope (ie double the usual slim number one gets) for my donation. Have a look at a cheque sometime & see how small they are. Nip along to Rymans & see what size envelope will fit. Save a few trees if you switched wouldn’t it? And ditch the cellophane window too. Thanks!
