This particular mailshot was an appeal for cash towards the production of more talking books. As someone who reads on escalators & in supermarket queues, it gives me the horrors to think of being unable to read, and i will be happy to donate to this cause in the near future. But ‘why o why’ (as they say on R4 Feedback) did the appeal have to include a glossy fake book jacket for Monserrat’s ‘Cruel Sea’? Those of us who read as they breathe will not need that kind of hint, while those who don’t just won’t get it so that gimmick is pointless. The message that such saints as George Monbiot & Al Gore are trying to put across should be heard by charities as well as governments, corporations & individuals – stop wasting resources!!! You want my money? Show me you are very very focused on spening every last penny on the intended recipients!

Could repeat all i said re the NCH re the ‘thank-you’ letter i had, but see blog 4. Did i write ‘RSVP’ on the back of my cheque? No, so i can live without unnecessary thanks. And, my heart sinks when i see all the mail on the mat when i get home from work. My mug of tea is often cold by the time i have ripped out the windows and shoved the rest in the recycling bag.

Anyway, i may not be giving to the SA much longer. Rumour has it they are anti-gay. As most of my friends are gay, or bi-sexual trannies, and i have been known to swing the other way myself, if i find that is true then i can’t justify sending more money that way.

Woodland Trust
Long a fave of mine – i always buy a tree or three if someone dies. Lasts a lot longer than a bunch of flowers, which are usually picked by underpaid third world workers, then freighted to the UK. See, i’ve got the message. So why did the WT include 2 unecessary glossy postcards with the mailshot. Hello! Aren’t you about planting trees not causing them to be hacked down??? And no answers on a postcard please…

International Primate Protection League
Nice plain envelope i can reuse & a freepost one for my next donation. I am a regular donator to the IPPL so it will be used. But there was a newsletter too. I can see the logic as people will give in response to reading of the horrors inflicted on our close cousins. But i can’t bear to read these things, too upsetting – my spiky exterior hides a centre of pure marshmallow. Had to turn the page v v quickly when i saw the pics of the trussed up dead gorillas in Rwanda in the paper. I know bad things happen but i don’t want chapter & verse, i like to sleep nightzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
