So many mailshots, so little time…
Army Benevolent Fund
Wonder how they found me? Erstwhile member of CND & white poppy wearer as i am. While i do agree that female & male service (and ex-service) personnel are not always treated as well as they should by the government, I don’t think charities should have to take up the shortfall. Ceratinly i do not feel this is the best cause i can give to. Even in wartime one cannot be made to fight & if one volunteers to kill other people then there is an argument to say that is a ‘caveat emptor’ situation.
Medical Foundation for the Care of Victims of Torture
So not only do they waste time thanking me, no freebie envelope is enclosed. In fact i am not sure i have ever had one from this charity. Feeling a little underappreciated here guys…
World Villages
Usual irritations here – see earlier blogs. And 4 December cards (you know what i mean i just can’t bear to say that word yet) which are festooned with enough cherubs to make me gag. No envelopes for the cards either so what is the point of that?
Breadline Africa
Too much paper in the envelope but there was a jolly little newsletter to let me know where my money goes (on recycled paper if i am not mistaken) as well as a freebie envelope.
Mencap
New to me, appeals from this charity. Envelope says ‘Please open this if you think a baby with a learning disability has a right to life’. First mistake. Sorry but i do think the docs try just a bit too hard these days. Not a hope of getting any dosh out of me.
NCH
Glad to get the envelope but could have done without all the bumpf. Will give again however as if i invest in a charity which helps youngsters who have no parents, or parents who are deeply inadequate, in theory there will be less youngsters who fancy burgling my house. Selfish? Probably but i guess the NCH don’t care.
Amnesty
A tiny envelope would have been okay for my next cheque, not the A5 one i was sent. And why was the outside envelope bright green – bet those dyes aren’t good for the planet.Perhaps they think it come back stuffed with raffle ticket stubs? Don’t have time to schlep round work doing all that. May buy a ticket or two myself tho i never win raffles. Except the one that saw me born white female in the west witha full complement of limbs & eyes & senses etc.
F of the E
More green dye and from a charity you would have tought might be a touch more aware. Still the cellophane too. Too much paper stuffed in too, apart from the envelope which is most welcome. Walk it like you talk it people.
IFAW
Too much stuff in envelope and they are guilt-tripping me with the plight of puppies & dogs in Mexico. The Mexican should come to a deal with Thailand or Korea or somewhere. i will give as i have for many years but that don’t mean i have to be on-messge all the time, does it.
Sightsavers
Was going to say i could have done without the thick , glossyA4 newletter. But there is a piece on A A Gill. Interested to know he is not just a dilletante reviewer of posh restaurants. Good cause will give idc, esp as i have a freebie envelope.
