Of course since noting how negelcted i had been by the charities in jan i now have several pounds of deforestation aka paper to recycle. Now who could have predicted that.
Wo loves me then? While it doesn’t necessarily mean i won’t be donating (despite not because of mailshots), the ones who have annoyed & bored me in equal measure are Ethiopaid, Red Cross, NCH, Crusaid (2 envelopes to same address albeit one to my partner), Breadline Africa (hmm, isn’t Ethiopia in Africa?) World Villages for Children (loved me two times, babe), St Mungo’s (v large envelope for v small amount of bumph), PDSA (another one so bad they mailed me twice, large & small envelopes just for variety)RNID, Woodland Trust (deuce again – and i really only buy trees when friends/family die so their best bet to get cash out of me is…), Oxfam (no envelope as such and no cellophane), and Friends of the Earth (as with Oxfam, friends of Brazil if nothing else).
Worst offenders this month were International Fund for Animal Welfare as they sent me three mailshots, incl one of those INTENSELY annoying fake ‘urgent:international delivery’ envelopes in lightweight cardboard. You can go off charities you know,
What put a big smile on was the envelope stickers from the Arthritis Research Campaign – great big red & orange & yellow flowers. Be happy to put those on my envelopes & cards etc.
Not a mailshot from the British Heart Foundation, but a large bag for donations for their local shop. Idea is i fill it with unwanted christmas presents (whatever, i haven’t managed to palm off all my birthday gifts yet & that was last Sept) and leave it on doorstep for collection. How (time) warped is that! Should come with a ready printed notice saying ‘Dear burglar, as you can see i am out at present, but to avoid unneccessary breakage i have left a key under the flowerpot…’ Think i’ll keep hauling the stuff to the shop as ever.
So which charities did this curmudgoen (illegitimate offspring of Lady Bountiful & Scrooge)give to in Feb? The ARC and Barnardos for a start, plus Medicins Sans Frontiers. The latter have never sent me anything so i get to recycle unwanted envelopes from other charities. Also WaterAid, which i have not donated to in years, and Smile Train which fixes hare lips/cleft palates etc. Like Sightsavers, the simple ops they do are routine in the west, but are totally life-changing for those who get a real smile as a result.
I shall now spend the rest of the evening doing the cellophane thing & recycling the deleivery envelopes for all – and the donation enevlopes too, for some. Just hope the man who collects the paper doesn’t sue for being off work with a hernia.
