That has to be the worst 4 letter word of all. Have never forgeotten reading Susan Brownmillers’ book years ago, ‘Against Our Will’ looking at how rape is used as a weapon – not just a threat in war but a way of proving concusively to a vanquished nation/army that they really are beat. ‘Not only have we taken your country but we have fucked your women and you are too weak to do anything about it.’ Which clearly links to the concept that women are a man’s property therefore a stranger should not be allowed to interfere with that propert. But i digress.

What set me off was a letter from Amnesty, and the insert had a picture of two grenades and a sharp knife arranged as you might imagine, to echo the configuration of male genitalia. The text gives the stories of raped women around the world, victims of deliberate strategy to use rape as a weapon. And i don’t want the bodies of women to be used in order to get at men, civilian or soldiers And the leaflet was a powerful reminder of the additional fear which women have so to me an excellent approach to raise money at a time when there might be a tendency to give to charities trying to meet physical needs (Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs and all that).

Was very impressed and have taken the chance to donate since receiving the leaflet. Hope that will work with others too.
