Don’t make me do it…

I have my favourite charities, as do we all i am sure. Then there is a rotating group which get occasional donations, often depending on what book i have just read or what is in the news etc. Finally there is a group of charities i have decided i will never give to ever again.

Question is how to stop this latter group from mailing me? I have e-mailed asking to be taken off the mailing list and been ignored. I have marked the letters ‘Gone Away’ and still they write. Does anyone know how to stop requests arriving?

Then i read of a gentleman who, when he receives, say, a letter offering him a new credit card, fills the enclosed post-paid envelope with bits of metal to make it heavier (in the hope the PO will charge more to return it) and pops said envelope back in the post. And the evil thought crossed my mind i could do that with charity requests from the group i have sent to the metaphorical Siberia where no monies are ever to be sent. No not the metal thing, but certainly sending the envelopes back with no cheque.

Ok i confess i have done that once with the worst offender, adding only a post-it note explaining i will never donate to them and therefore requesting i be taken off their mailing list. Watch this space to see if the problem ends as a result. Seems mean but if a charity is winging me begging letters and free gifts endlessly with no hope of return then maybe the cost to that charity of sending one empty envelope back will actually save them money in the long run? See. altrusim is my middle name after all!

And if they still ignore me and continue to send letters and gifts, showing that there is no attempt to target their mailshots productively,  then i will feel entirely indicated in sending them no more money to waste. That would make me wonder if they are doing anything effeiciently? (Writer is suffused with self-righteous glow…)
