A very dear friend died recently and us nearest and dearest agreed that – apart from a solitary rose on top of the (disposable, cardboard) coffin – there would be no flowers. Instead all mourners, at the service and pub after, were asked to give to the UK Wolf Conservation Trust,in the dearly departed’s name. He had once been gifted a sponsorship of a wolf and it was his fave charity thenceafter. I remembered that but it occurred to me that had it not been for that gift i would not have heard of that charity at all. Just wondering how smaller charities get their name known at all outside of local or specialised interest areas at all. Apparently animal charities do better than other categories overall (eg health children overseas aid etc) but i suppose within each category there are those at the bottom of the pile. Must look up how they do as i suspect people are more ready to support kittens and old donkeys as it is a less scary thought than having so many wolves they end up roaming a neighbourhood near you. Just stick to the path is all i’m saying…
And it is an ill wind isn’t it, as the minister who officiated (friend of Rob, the deceased, tho’ he was not religious at all) refused any payment for her help. Instead the minister’s fee went to the free counselling centre where she met Rob when he was a volunteer receptionist.
