Have not had it yet but was delighted to hear this week i have been awarded a £25 a month payrise. Could not possibly spend all that on myself (!) so have decided to up my monthly contribution by a tenner, to £60. (Mr Gates, that  is what is known as the ‘widows mite’.)

Most months i pick 5 charities and send £10 each. But now i am thinking it would be better to do 3x£20, on the assumption that it costs no more to process £20 than £10. So ‘my’ charities will less frequent donations but more money when i do send.

Is that logical and helpful? Any thoughts, anyone?

Logical, yes. More money less often will be, theoretically lower processing costs, so even more benefit.

Ideally, I’d prefer to know that if you supported ‘my’ charity, you were doing it on the basis you do – so that it would cost me less to look after you.

But that’s something for the charities to do – know who supports them and how.

And on behalf of charities everywhere – thank you.
