Or green or blue or red. That is the rainbow i have had across the door mat this past month. I suspect we all get days when there is a stack of envelopes most of which are clearly unsolicited ie credit card companies begging for our custom (blessedly absent now) and charities after our money. [...]

Gaza. Not that proof were needed but Israel is the facistic bully it wanted to get away from. But then that’s what Paolo Freire’s “Pedagogy of the Oppressed’ describes as happening – once the oppressed get out from under the only model they have of how to behave when no longer oppressed is to oppress [...]

Over half of my donations went to Afghanaid this month (Jan 2009). This arose from my googling a voluntary work colleague of mine who left 2 years back to run a centre supporting female MP’s in Afghanistan. Didn’t find anything current but it reminded me that i had wanted to send something to help that poor [...]

You know how fickle i am, first all aquiver over Giles Bolton (his ‘Poor Story’ still a recommended read) and now i have swung the other way and got it hot for Rose George. She has published a book called ‘The Big Necessity’ which is all about human waste management. (Not so much chick lit [...]

Saw a banner for the London Evening Standard today saying ‘Companies slash charity donations’. Ouch! That has to hurt. It’s triple whammy isn’t it, to be paying higher food costs, higher utility bills, and now less corporate donations. And maybe the value of investments diminishing too. And governments cutting back to bail out finacial institutions? [...]

Finally had enough. Breadline Africa sent me three mailshots in 10 days. Two days ago i sent thm an e-mail to say that i would not be giving them any more money, and explained why – waste of money buying the envelopes, waste of the planets scarce resources in the paper for the envelopes and [...]
